42 year old Leila Bacchus of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam was remanded when she appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court earlier today to face a murder charge.
The charge was read to her by magistrate Renita Singh and states that between 16th and 20th of May, she murdered 43 year old Andy Junior, a carpenter of Timmers Dam. She was not require to plea to the charge and was remanded to prison until 14th July.

Police investigations have revealed that the accused visited the Central Police Station and reported that the deceased ingested poison on the 16th May 2023 and died on the 20th May 2023 about 21 hours 30 at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
Bacchus was contacted and interviewed and she revealed that she and the deceased shared a common law relationship for the past twelve years and are sharing three children.
During their relationship, the accused was found to be unfaithful and on one occasion the deceased found her and the person she was cheating with together. That person went away and she started chatting with a another male from a different country and the deceased found out about same and started nagging at her.
Bacchus said that she was contemplating about three to four days about giving the deceased poison. She knew that it is the deceased habit of buying turbo after work and take it home.
Deceased – Andy Junior
On the 16th May 2023 about 17 hours 30 hours, the deceased went home from work and put his working bag on a table containing a turbo drink. Bacchus then took the bag into the kitchen and opened the turbo drink and took poison which she purchased to spray the yard and threw same into a Pepsi cork and then threw same into the turbo bottle and he ingested same unknowingly.
The deceased then started vomiting and she called her sister in law and informed her that the deceased consumed poison. They took him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was admitted a patient and later died on the 20th May 2023.
