Two Venezuelan nationals are now in custody after they were busted by Police ranks earlier this morning (Monday), with 11,000 grams of narcotics in the trunk of a motorcar they were in at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
Acting on information received at about 05:15 hrs this morning (Monday), Police ranks conducted a road block exercise on the western end of the Demarara Harbour Bridge, where motorcar PPP 1521 which was proceeding East, with the two Venezuelan nationals, 22-year-old Kevyn De Jesus and 29-year-old Marcelino Marcos — both of 66 David Street, Kitty, was stopped.
A Police Corporal who was a part of the roadblock, told the driver of his suspicions and requested to carry out a search on the motorcar and the two occupants.
A search on the person of both men revealed nothing illegal. However a search of the said motorcar revealed a total of fifteen (15) compressed parcels.
The parcels which were opened in the duo’s presence revealed a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Both men were told of the offence committed, cautioned and they remained silent.
They were arrested and escorted to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station along with the narcotics, which amounted to 11,000 grams when weighed.
Both suspects remain in custody pending further investigation and charge/s.
