Thousands of Berbicians have begun registering for the government’s $100,000 cash grant at several registration sites across Region Six. The registration process, which started on Monday, runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily and will conclude on Sunday.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Sonia Parag, visited several registration sites in Region Six to observe the process firsthand and ensure it was being carried out efficiently and smoothly.
Speaking with the media, Minister Parag expressed satisfaction with how the exercise was progressing in the Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC) areas she visited. She encouraged citizens to remain calm, reassuring them that the registration period spans several days to ensure all eligible Guyanese can register for the grant.
“The bulk of residents came out yesterday (Monday) in Region Six, and we’ve had a steady flow since then. Some individuals, especially those who are working, will register at different times, but thousands of people have already signed up. We are committed to ensuring that everyone eligible gets the chance to register and take advantage of this opportunity that the Government has provided,” Minister Parag stated.
She noted that the Government is pleased to be in a position to support Guyanese with this initiative, adding that citizens deserve to benefit from the country’s resources. The registration process, she assured, is structured to capture all eligible individuals to maximize the reach of the program.
Feedback from residents revealed various plans for the grant, with many expressing intentions to invest in small businesses or undertake household repairs. Minister Parag noted that this diversity of use highlights the positive impact the program is expected to have on families across the region.
The $100,000 cash grant initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to provide direct financial support to families nationwide, aimed at improving living standards and alleviating financial challenges.
During her visits to the registration sites, Minister Parag was accompanied by Region Six Chairman David Armogan, Regional Vice Chairman Zamal Hussain, and Regional Executive Officer Narindra Persaud. These officials actively engaged with residents and monitored the process to ensure its success.
As the registration continues across Region Six, the Government remains committed to ensuring transparency, accessibility, and efficiency, guaranteeing that all eligible Guyanese benefit from this initiative.
