The lifeless body of 40-year-old Junan Gomes, of Lot 306 Timehri, East Bank Demerara, was discovered this morning in Room #5 at the Sunflower Hotel, Restaurant, and Bar, located at Cummings Street and South Road.
The grim discovery was made around 08:45 hrs by the hotel’s supervisor, Coleen Cush. Investigations revealed that Gomes had checked into the hotel on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11:09 hrs, and collected the key to her room, which was on the second floor.
According to Cush, Gomes was a frequent customer at the hotel and had mentioned feeling unwell upon her arrival. This morning, after repeatedly knocking on the door and receiving no response, Cush retrieved a spare key and entered the room, where she found Gomes lying naked and unresponsive on the bed.
Police and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene, and Dr. Rampersaud from the Georgetown Public Hospital pronounced the woman dead. Crime scene technicians, along with investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), processed the room for evidence.
A preliminary examination of the body found no visible marks of violence. Several individuals have been questioned as investigations continue.
