Almost five months after the accident, 28 year old Chandani Mohabir of Canefield East Canje Berbice appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court where she was charged for causing the death of a two year old child.
Mohabir was not required to plea to charge when it was read to her by Magistrate Renita Singh and was granted $400,000 bail.
The allegation is that on the 23rd of December 2022, she drove motor car PGG 278 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of two year old Jasmine Ross of Angoy’s Avenue New Amsterdam.
On the day in question, at about 15 hours, the firefighter was driving her motor car allegedly at a fast rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle and collided with motor cycle bearing trade plate #MR-1 which was proceeding south along the eastern lane at a normal rate of speed.
The motor cycle was being driven by 29 year old Marley Ross, the father of the toddler who was the pillion rider.
As a result of the impact the motor cyclist and the pillion rider were both flung onto the eastern grass parapet where they both received injuries about their body.
The two along with the driver and the occupants of the car were rushed to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital, where the toddler was pronounced dead.
Her father who survived the accident told reporters following the court appearance that he wants justice for his daughter since he is not pleased with the outcome of today’s court proceeding.
