Works are progressing at the New Amsterdam synthetic track while upgrades to the tune of $400M is expected on Community Ground across Region Six. This is according to Region Six Chairman, David Armogan.

“As you know work progressing rapidly on the Burnham Park to make sure that the synthetic track is completed, I did indicate that sometime again that when they finish with Linden they will come to Berbice and lay that synthetic so as you see there is a big pavilion has been set up and so a lot of work is being done there as I speak to make sure that we can complete that by the end of the year.”
In addition to the pavilion, the lights for the facility is currently being assembled to be installed at the location.
Armogan noted that from the $400M dollars that was announced by the Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo, for upgrades to community grounds across the region, works have since commenced and those grounds will also be equipped with brush cutters for maintenance.

“He has emphasize that school grounds must be done so that’s one of the areas that we are focusing on and not only school grounds but community grounds as well to make sure that we can have all these playgrounds in order, with this 400m a number of slashers will be bought so that we can keep these grounds in playable order at all times to make sure. We are not only focusing on cricket and cricket grounds. We are also focusing on volleyball, table tennis, land tennis, basketball, football, all the other games we are focusing on.
The Regional Chairman said that a committee has been formed including officials from all the Neighborhood Democratic Councils and clubs across the region to ensure the effective management of the community grounds.
