In a remarkable display of the transformative power of rehabilitation, a juvenile beneficiary of the government’s groundbreaking ‘Fresh Start’ initiative is set to reunite with his family following the successful completion of his sentence. This milestone marks a significant achievement in its mission to curb recidivism and foster professional growth.
Conceived by Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Robeson Benn, the ‘Fresh Start’ programme has proven instrumental in providing opportunities for occupational training and establishing pathways towards financial independence.
At a simple ceremony held at the Ministry’s Brickdam Office, the young man, having completed courses in electrical installation, was bestowed with an electrical installation toolkit by Hon. Robeson Benn, M.P. and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andre Ally.
The toolkit serves as a crucial asset, enabling the youth to further hone his craft and skills while striving for self-sufficiency.
Expressing gratitude, the young beneficiary extended heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) for their unwavering support throughout his transformative journey.
The ‘Fresh Start’ Initiative stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to rehabilitation, offering second chances and empowering individuals to embrace a future filled with promise and opportunity.
The Director of the Juvenile Justice Department, Mrs. Jaon Ann Edghill-Stuart, the Administrator (ag) of the NOC, Mr. Shelton Daniels and Instructor, Mr. Charles Joseph were also present at today’s handing over.
