With only two weeks left for the Local Government Election, independent candidate, 32-year-old Kenroy Henry of 40 Stanleytown New Amsterdam is hoping to get the support from his constituency to secure a seat at the New Amsterdam Mayor and Town Council following the June 12 election.
During an interview with The News Desk, Henry indicated that he can make a difference and help with the development of the township once elected to serve at the municipality. He said that he intends to work with whichever party dominates the New Amsterdam Mayor and Town after the conclusion of the Local Government Election.
“I always look at myself as a team player and acquiring that one seat after the 12th of June, I am willing to work along with whoever dominates the council, all of my fellow councilors to look at the larger picture, I would also like to share their ideas so we can build upon it, my ideas also and we can bring back New Amsterdam to where it once was and as I said to carry it further so I am a team player and I am willing to work.” Henry added.
Some of the areas he intends to focus on include youth development, fostering cohesion among citizens, increasing health outreach, improving drainage and irrigation, and ensuring better systems are in place to manage solid waste among others.
“To me, drainage is a major aspect that needs to be addressed within the town of New Amsterdam and also garbage collection, that is very important because even a few months ago you find that persons tend to burn their garbage within the residential area whereas affecting persons so those are two of the major issues. Also youth development, to me more emphasis needs to be placed on youth development in New Amsterdam at large so that they can meaningfully engage themselves because we have a lot of intelligent young men and women in New Amsterdam.”
Henry noted that he has been using the various social media platform to engage with residents to inform them why they should vote for them. He said visits to the homes of residents to share his vision and plans for the township as well as taking ideas from residents are part of what he has been doing to keep residents informed about his vision for the town.
Kenroy Henry is a teacher by profession for the last 15 years with an interest in sports. He said politics has become one of his new passion given what he has seen the current council lacking the ability to do.
