Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at about 12 hours 15 today on the Access Road (Sideline Dam) at Buxton, East Coast Demerara.
The accident involves Motor Lorry GYY 7002, owned by Cevons Waste Management Inc and driven at the time by 32 year old Timothy Franklin Baynes of Haslington, East Coast Demerara and pedestrian 84 year old Elanie Williams (now-deceased), a pensioner of Lot 82 Sideline Dam, Buxton.
The police in a statement disclosed that the Lorry driver was reversing from South to North on Buxton Sideline Dam when he felt as though he ran over something.
Upon checking, the driver observed a woman lying motionless behind his vehicle. Subsequently, the police arrived at the scene and picked up the injured pedestrian, who was motionless and escorted her to the Buxton Health Center, where she was seen and examined by a Doctor and pronounced dead on arrival. The body was transported to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination.
Persons in the area assaulted the Lorry driver, and he is presently at the Georgetown Public Hospital receiving treatment under police guard.
Investigations are ongoing.
