The Guyana Fire Service is investigating the cause of a fire that completely destroyed a two story wooden and concrete structure at Weldaad, West Coast Berbice this afternoon.
The News Desk understands the home is occupied by 64 year old Marlyne Fraser with her six children and two grandchildren, ages 6 and 4 years.
She told investigators that she was at home with her two grandchildren in the lower flat of her house, feeding them, when she started to smell something burning and immediately sent her granddaughter to check and see what it was.
However, the child ran back to her and informed her that smoke was coming out from her mother’s bedroom.
Fraser then rushed out to the front yard and witnessed her structure engulfed in flames. Neighbors quickly gathered and formed a bucket brigade to combat the fire but this was unsuccessful.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Investigation continuing.
