Nineteen-year-old Shania Peneux from Orealla, who was recently crowned Miss Amerindian Heritage Queen for Region Six, is set to represent her region in the upcoming national Amerindian Heritage Pageant later this month.
Shania, a proud representative of the indigenous community in Region Six was officially sashed during a special ceremony last evening by the Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Hon. Pauline Sukhai. The event took place at the Amerindian Heritage Sports, held at the Everest Cricket Club Ground in Georgetown, as part of the national celebrations honoring Amerindian Heritage Month.
As the reigning queen for Region Six, Shania will now carry the hopes and pride of her region to the national stage, where she will compete against other contestants from across the country, showcasing her rich cultural heritage, talent, and beauty. The Amerindian Heritage Pageant, a highlight of the month-long festivities, aims to celebrate and promote the traditions and diversity of Guyana’s indigenous peoples, while empowering young women from these communities.
The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Six expressed its full support for Shania and extended its best wishes for her journey ahead. The RDC noted that her participation in the upcoming pageant is not only a personal achievement but also a significant opportunity to shine a spotlight on the unique culture and history of the ancient county of Berbice.
The entire region stands behind Shania as she prepares to take the stage and make her mark at the national level, bringing pride and recognition to Orealla and Region Six. The Amerindian Heritage Pageant will serve as a platform for her to inspire others, preserve cultural traditions, and advocate for the empowerment of indigenous women across the nation.
