The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has launched the Coastal Water Treatment Infrastructure Programme (CWTIP) with the aim of expanding treated water coverage to 90% by 2025. This ambitious initiative will see the construction of seven new large water treatment plants, 15 small plants, the upgrading of 12 existing facilities, and the installation of 200 kilometers of transmission mains across Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
As part of the ongoing works,GWI CEO Shaik Baksh recently inspected the upgraded Farm Pump Station, which now includes a small in-line water treatment plant. Once operational, the new facility will be able to remove iron content from the water, ensuring that residents in the area have access to improved potable water and enhanced service delivery.

Under the program, small treatment plants are being installed in Agricola, La Bonne Intention (LBI), and Lusignan in Region 4; Perseverance, Calcutta, Weldaad, Strath Campbell, and Ithaca in Region 5; and Edinburg, Chesney, Mibicuri, Johanna, No. 69 Village, and Crabwood Creek in Region 6.
GWI has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no community is left without access to clean and safe potable water as part of its nationwide efforts to improve water infrastructure.
