Minister Mustapha noted that the event offers an opportunity to forge new partnerships, foster collaboration, and explore the potential for economic growth. “This year’s theme underscores the strength and diversity of our local industries, especially in Berbice. As Guyana emerges as a global player in the oil and gas industry, the agriculture sector becomes even more crucial in maintaining a balanced and resilient economy,” he said.
He further explained the importance of agriculture in ensuring food security, employment, and rural livelihoods, noting that while oil revenues present immense opportunities for growth, agriculture must remain a strong pillar of the country’s development. “Oil revenues will provide new opportunities for investment in the agriculture sector, allowing for modernization, improved infrastructure, and increased production. By strategically using wealth from oil, we can strengthen and diversify agriculture, creating a sustainable and inclusive economic future for all Guyanese.”
President of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce, Poonai Bhigroog, reflected on the chamber’s achievements over the years, which have been made possible through revenue generated by the Expo.
He highlighted several impactful projects, including the construction of a fire station, renovations at the Felix Austin Police College, and over $25 million spent on improvements to the Albion Sports Complex and the Rose Hall Estate Community Center Ground. Additionally, the chamber contributed $500,000 to the Special Needs School in New Amsterdam and made donations to hurricane relief efforts in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
