A West Coast Berbice schoolgirl is the latest victim to lose her life on the country’s roadways as road fatalities continue to climb across the country.
Dead is 14-year-old Renesha Small of Paradise Village, West Coast Berbice. She was struck down by motor car HD 4290 on the No. 41 Village West Coast Berbice at about 14 hours today.
According to the police, motor car #HD 4290 was proceeding East along the northern side of the No. 41public Road, West Coast Berbice about 80 kilometres when the decease came out of a minibus which was on the southern side of the said public road and ran from South to North into the path of motorcar.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian received injuries about her body and fell onto the road surface where she was picked up in an unconscious condition by a public-spirited citizen and rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where she died while receiving medical attention.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar and ithe was found to have three micrograms of alcohol. He was later served with a notice of intended prosecution.
Investigations are ongoing.
