A physical altercation between two brothers in Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice, has tragically ended in the death of 41-year-old mason Kiran Bacchus. The incident occurred on January 1, 2025, around 1:30 a.m. at the home of his younger brother, 27-year-old Deepak Bacchus.
According to investigations, the confrontation began after Kiran, who had been drinking, became upset upon learning that Deepak had prevented Kiran’s wife, Seeta Churchand, from entering the yard shared by their mother, Sookranie Bacchus. Kiran then went to the house, where he confronted his brother.
The situation escalated into a physical altercation, during which both men reportedly fell to the ground. Kiran’s head struck the ground, causing him to bleed from his nose and lose consciousness. He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital but passed away while receiving treatment.
Kiran’s body is currently at Bailey’s Funeral Parlour, awaiting an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
Deepak Bacchus is in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
