Police are investigating a serious accident that occurred around 1:15 am today (Sunday, January 5, 2025), on the Land of Plenty public road, Essequibo Coast. The incident involved a motorcycle (CP 115) owned and driven by 32-year-old Mark Kendall Simon, a labourer from Cottonfield, Essequibo Coast.
According to preliminary investigations, Simon was heading north on the Land of Plenty public road at an allegedly high speed when he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a utility pole owned by the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) on the western side of the road.
The impact caused Simon to be thrown onto the roadway, resulting in multiple injuries. He was found unconscious by Anti-Crime patrol ranks, who transported him to the Suddie Public Hospital.
A doctor on duty examined Simon and treated him for head injuries, a fractured rib, and a fractured hip. He was subsequently admitted to the hospital for further care.
The motorcycle has been taken to the Anna Regina Police Station, where it has been lodged for inspection by a licensing and certifying officer as investigations continue.
