Tiffany Parris, a 26-year-old from Port Mourant on the Corentyne, has realized her dream of becoming an attorney at law in Guyana. After working multiple jobs to fund her education and completing her Legal Education Certificate in Trinidad and Tobago, Parris was recently admitted to the local bar.

Her petition was presented by prominent attorney-at-law and former magistrate, Charlyn Artiga, of Artiga and Associates, before Justice Nigel Niles at the New Amsterdam High Court. It was a moment that marked the culmination of years of determination, sacrifice, and belief in her dreams.
Speaking after the ceremony, Parris reflected on her journey, attributing much of her success to positive affirmations and the influence of her late aunt, who had been her biggest supporter. “My aunt, who sadly passed away, always believed in me and instilled the passion for law in me. I wish she were here to witness this achievement,” she said.
From a young age, Parris excelled in her studies, taking on challenges with the belief that “anything is possible with God.” At the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, she sat 13 subjects and passed them all while attending New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School.

She then completed two additional years at the same institution, earning an Associate Degree in Humanities, and was recognized as the best graduating law student at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). Following this, Parris enrolled at the University of Guyana, initially pursuing International Relations before transitioning to the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program.
Her path to becoming a lawyer wasn’t easy, as she balanced studying with working to support herself. “There were challenges, but I stayed focused, disciplined, and determined. I knew that sacrifices had to be made in order to achieve my goals,” she said. Parris emphasized the importance of prioritizing and working hard, advising young people to stay focused on their dreams and remain disciplined in the face of adversity.
Despite the challenges of relocating for her studies, Parris relied on her faith to persevere. “God is good, and he was with me throughout this journey. I am here today because of his grace,” she expressed.

In addition to her faith, Parris credits her relatives and mentor, Charlyn Artiga, for playing a pivotal role in her professional growth. “Ms. Artiga is the embodiment of discipline, kindness, and professionalism. She taught me not only the law but the responsibility we have as attorneys—to be advocates for the voiceless and to pursue justice with integrity and compassion.”
Tiffany Parris’s journey from Port Mourant to the bar is a powerful story of perseverance, faith, and hard work. Her success serves as an inspiration to young people everywhere, showing that with determination and focus, even the most challenging goals can be achieved.
