27 farmers graduated from an Organizational Management Training Workshop earlier today which aims to build capacity among local farmers. The initiative was a collaborative venture between the Partners of Americas, the Farmer to Farmer Programme.
The training which lasted for six days, focused on several key areas including Effective communication, Emotional Intelligence, Team building, Developing organization’s Mission, aims and objectives, and Organisational structure such as roles and responsibilities.
The farmers were drawn from two farmers group, 12 from the Sandvoort Farmers’ Association and 15 from the West Coast Berbice Sheep and Goat Association.
Chief Executive Office of Food For the Poor Guyana, Kent Vincent noted that he is hopeful that the participants will utilize the knowledge from the experience shared to improve and develop what they have started so as to ensure social and economic stability in the country.
“We want to see the groups the farmers groups not only these two but we want to see more of the group develop, grow, strive and contribute to the economic development of the country and once you are successful, it not only help you and your families individually but it helps the location where you are from, the village you are from, the town you are from and in the long term the entire country” he added.
He said supporting farmers groups is a strategy for them to gain economies of scale and effectively compete in Guyana’s growing and developing economy.
At the end of the simple graduation ceremony, a tillage machine was handed over to the farmers of the West Coast Berbice Sheep and Goat Association.
