The Police in Berbice are investigating an incident, which occurred on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at about 13:00 hours in Bengal Farm Village Backdam , Corentyne Berbice, involving Mini Bus# BHH 2939 owned and driven a 51-year-old Police Lance Corporal of Eversham Village, Corentyne Berbice and Pedal Cyclist, 73-year-old Walter Jundoo of Epson Village Corentyne, Berbice.
Initial investigation revealed that the mini bus was proceeding East at the rear of the pedal cyclist along Bengal Farm Access Road (Backdam) when it was alleged by the driver (the officer) of the mini bus that while in the process of passing the pedal cyclist he sounded the horn but suddenly the cyclist swerved right into his path.
As a result, the driver alleged that he felt an impact to the front right portion of his vehicle and he immediately stopped and checked when he observed the said pedal cyclist to be lying on the ground in a conscious condition with injuries to his right foot. He picked him up and took him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was treated by a doctor on duty and admitted as a patient in the male surgical ward (8) suffering from a fracture right foot.
However, on Thursday, November 02, 2023, at about 14:30h, the pedal cyclist succumbed to his injuries.
The off-duty rank who was driving the minibus at the time is currently in custody assisting with this investigation.
